I was in that class with Terrell when he told us about this new thing called Substack - and look at him - and you - go! (I'm thrilled with my 4000-ish!) And you know I'd love a cup of tea and lots of talk. Bless you for all you do!
I love this post, Janisse! I love how much people fascinate you. I hope someday I can join you for tea at your wonderful farm-home and meet Little Fawn. You continue to inspire me.
Congratulations, Janisse! Well deserved and may you grow and grow. You are a wonderful writer and great community builder. I am curious how you get the names of your subscribers to pop up? I only see email addresses when I get a new subscriber. Also, I never see profiles. Is this something you had added? Thanks for any help you can give on this. I miss seeing the names of my subscribers.
Janna, no, I've done nothing. This is something that Substack does. Under the Notifications tab in your settings, you would click that you want to receive notification when someone subscribes. (I do NOT want to see unsubscribes.) That naturally sends an email to my inbox. Sometimes I only get an email address, but some people fill out the profile, and I get their name & bio.
Thanks so much, Janisse. That's what I do too, but I never seem to get the names or a bio. The only way I know is if their name is in their email address. (I, also, do not want to see unsubscribes!)
to think this started simply because i stumbled across Ecology of A Cracker Childhood in an opshop (charity shop i think you call them?) . right place, right time... write words, write time. Although if im honest, im not writing as much as i should be... still... that moment of finding that book sent me down a new rabbit hole and here we are
I would be delighted to have tea with a little Fawn. I noticed in the photo she was wearing her. “Bearstein” necklace that is traditional; to help with teething. If that’s a clue to the kind of intergenerational mother she has, bring it on! Having birthed a daughter at age 44, I let her know that in one person I was bringing her mother, grandmother, auntie, cousin, friend, and any other useful female presence. How grateful I am to summon and share this so intimately and with intention. What a glorious mothering daughtering journey you both have begun. Tea please.
I would love to have tea with you dear Janisse! Bill, Koda and I are in Colorado for a few weeks and if you could have tea with me here I would serve you a freshly picked rhubarb cream pie.
I would make some homemade blackberry pie filled with the bounty of our traditional family wild blackberry picking expedition for this would-be tea party. Doesn’t that sound like just the thing to go with some tea and front porch sitting?
Tea would be lovely; I'll bring my mulberry kombucha and we could have a little banana bread and pasta salad too. I've loved what you've had to say since Ecology of a Cracker Childhood. I will always appreciate how down-to-earth you are!

You’re a freaking legend, Janisse. You inspire me all the time. Thank you.
Congratulations on 6k!
Great post. Not only the inner workings of your thoughts about us, but our bios and fun to read and imagine. Thanks
What an amazing community you have cultivated. Happy to be a part of it.
Hah, I love everyone's bios! Which has me thinking I need to revise mine a bit! Glittermaster is amazing!
Your perspective on 6K has me thinking about even in my sub 1K numbers that I still end up censoring myself in some capacity. Time to work on that.
*waves* to Little Fawn!
I'll bring a rhubarb-strawberry crisp. Let's talk the afternoon away and perhaps I can read a book to Little Fawn.
As always, thanks for this. Little Fawn look like she's ready to be a dancer.
Delightful! I love these bios. Aren't folks something? 💕
