I loved this so much. As always, your descriptions are compelling at a level so very real and touching. The image of you caring for and interacting with the sweet baby throughout the ordeal tugs at my heart. I’m glad you and Little Fawn are well and thankful for the many heroes you had and have who keep you feeling safe, loved, and supported.

A newborn and a hurricane! What a plot. When my son was a baby we lost power for almost a week. I still remember that vulnerability- your story brought it back.

Little Fawn is so beautiful. May you each be a gift to each other. I’m awed by you.

What an amazing story. What a courageous woman you are, caring for a newborn, your animals, and your farm in such a nightmarish and challenging storm! Little Fawn is beautiful. I know she will bring lots of love and joy to you and your family. Blessings to all of you with love!

I worried about you during the storm. I saw the post that said you wouldn't be posting. I was watching the weather and thinking about that part of Georgia, which I drive through on a regular basis. By yourself and caring for a newborn (not to mention the animals). That's dedication and determination. My niece's neighborhood in Richmond Hill flooded in this storm. They evacuated with a 2yo and one on the way. The street was a river; homes were accessible only by boat. Fortunately, the high water stopped just inches shy of the raised main floor. You have a beautiful granddaughter and she has a strong-willed grandmother. Stay safe.

Stronger than the water. More powerful than the linemen you are. I hear Randy Newman singing Louisiana 1927.

Janisse, Your account of caring for Little Fawn amid the downpour from the hurricane is deeply moving. Little Fawn is a beautiful baby, and you are taking such good care of her. With much love and admiration from your old friend, Campbell the Elder (my grandnephew Campbell O'Steen is Campbell the Younger, a grandson of my sister Sara Dale Dixon Sellers).

Well. Now that is truly anchoring yourself in place! I wonder at what point you would have left, with all those people trying you to get out! All's well now, with a beautiful baby prize who will beg you to tell that story over and over once she is bigger.

Good lord, Janisse! Talk about anchoring yourself (and your grandaughter) to a place! She'll share this epic story decades from now. Sending you love.

My feeling is that you and Little Fawn were soul bonded before these forces of nature, but if not, this sealed the deal. We had word of what was happening on my little farm in upstate SC but we just received light mist. My clients in Savannah were the first to show me the true destruction of this storm. I hope your cleanup efforts are seamless and swift.

Thank heavens you and Little Fawn are ok. Your bravery, intelligence , determination, strength, and love carried you through what would have crumpled most of us. Your description of this had me right there with you, feeling the dread, isolation and need for companionship. Someone to hold your hand. Someone in that dark night that could say “it will be all right “. Blessing on your neighbors, the police, the linemen. The storm reminded me of the beginning of the book “Light Pirate”. Newborns in the middle of a fierce storm. Women trying to cope. Little Fern will grow up with your caring and abiding love, strong and resilient. Thank you for sharing this with us. I wish we could have been by your side. Rest and relax now. Heehee! As much as one can with an infant in the house! Big hugs and caring love.

Dear Janisse, Thank you for sharing! I had no idea of all of that was going on for you so close to our farm - which itself was full up and saturated with water - yet on a paved highway which helps. Oh! A SWEET baby girl! The news made my heart leap. You are so fortunate to have each other - especially during such a storm. Let me know if I can help!

Wow, that's intense! Hope you're getting some sunshine and some respite (not to mention power and communication lines), post-hurricane and baby!!! Rest easy.
