I love this! I've been on a mission to recover my 6th sense for several years now. It's always been there but I haven't always given it the attention it deserves. The world is so full of divisiveness these days and the only respite I can find from it is in the woods or river. Thank you for being you and putting this essay together!
Janisse, this is deep and I need to read it another 2-3 times, at least, to grasp it all. Thank you, as Michele said, for sharing so many disparate things and linking them together so artfully. Your list of poisons (bullying, cancelling, dividing, etc.) is so spot-on. Turning poison into medicine feels like such a vital concept.
You know that I've never even seen this plant, Karen? At least I can't remember seeing it. At a botanical garden would have been the only possible place.

It's such a long essay. Thank you for getting through it, Becki.
This is a mind-altering look at poison! Thanks Janisse for sharing your journey, your knowledge, and your wisdom!
One small attempt.....
This is powerful . Alchemical. Thank you, Janisse ❤️
All for you, Katie.

Well, sometimes I want to throw poison darts. LOL Could I put a smalllll dose on the tip of the dart & call it a medicine dart? (prolly not, huh)
I love this so much. The mandrake root was sacred to the witches of the British isles. It has so much to teach us.

I haven't either, but I took a doll making class from a lovely woman in New Zealand and she focused a lot on the mandrake root.
Thank you for sharing art, your heritage, botany, photographs, modern stresses, and plants in this fascinating story.
Maybe other writers are as concerned about the world and share as much as you do, but I don’t know them.
Namaste.
So kind, so generous. Thank you, Michele.
