Nancy, PLEASE, if you have any seeds left, I would like them. I would LOVE to get my genetics back. I've ordered 2 packs from R.H. Shumway, but I would much prefer yours.
Arrgh! I wish I had known. I had gotten some seed from you at a beekeeper's meeting, and I think 2020 was when I had grown it out. I will NEVER grow 4 cushaw plants again! They tried to take over the world, and we were drowning in 20# squashes. One squash would feed a family of four for a week. I think I may still have some seeds. Let me know if you might want some.
Wonderful to hear about your life growing vegetables and your search for the ‘lost’ strain of cushaw (a new word to me!). I’m learning such a lot here on Substack! Good wishes to your mum.
I have never successfully grown cushaw but have bought from a local farm here and loved the flavor. It’s as the typical green and white, I had no idea there were other varieties! I did successfully grow Seminole pumpkin in 2017 and was worried some flooding of my garden from Hurricane Harvey would ruin the harvest but they pulled through. I may have to grow them again soon. I’ve been pulling back on a lot of my edible gardening in favor of flower gardening (fenced here so the deer don’t eat it! Which means I can grow things there I can’t in my regular flower beds). Will check out some of the more obscure seed sources you mentioned as I was unfamiliar with them. I’ve stepped back from Baker Creek after their invite, later revoked due to outcry/protest, of Cliven Bundy to a festival a few years ago. Sow True is a favorite for sure! Happy gardening...my tomatoes are currently under lights and a few are beginning to germinate!

So happy you found your cushaw seeds!

Speaking of Heritage varieties, is that a Black Mouth Cur pup on that man's lap?
Yes!
Tom, thank you. I'm in the middle of an order now.
