This is timely. I just downloaded the app and discovered there are a few around town. I always stop and look at them wherever I go, but now as I learn more about my place, I’m going to get to know each Little Free Library, because I can. I might even bring my mom along to visit them. I’ve convinced the local used bookstore I volunteer at to donate books to these little free libraries and build one outside the bookstore. They agreed. I’m so excited to create the impetus. Once I help build one, I can start others. I love the tiered ones for the taller people and the shorter.
I LOVE free libraries and I, too, brake for them. I have long wanted to put one outside my home. I get such a thrill from buying a new book by a beloved author, reading it, and putting it straight into a free library for someone else to happen upon.
We have one here at the Cowee School Arts and Heritage Center, but one of my favorites is a very rural one on Sandy Ford road near the Chattooga Wild and Scenic River in Rabun County. Little works of art....
Part of walking my dog in a neighborhood community wherever I am involves stopping for any LFL. Thanks for the photos of the ones you've seen. I'm always curious to see what books are in them! So many different designs and all over the world. All because one guy who loved his mom and she loved books and he didn't want to forget her a worldwide movement started here in Wisconsin!
Here in Wisconsin, you'll find them in front of most schools and churches. We've also got more than Little Free Libraries; Little Free Pantries; Little Free Seed Libraries!
Here I’d ...... breath.
Thank you!!!! I hope you can the library some day. We just got the 13 volumes John Burroughs signed and numbered collection. A donation I sought
Raven, your painting is wonderful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Angela, I hate to admit that I've never erected one. You inspire me to do it too. I hope you send me your photos along the way.
For sure.

That's a lot of karmic goodness. :)

If you don't mind, I'll send you a copy of Wild Card Quilt for the one at Cowee.
🙏
I have found the Little Free Library in my new Atlanta neighborhood and could slip your book in. Good connection to my Journey in Place boundaries!
I don't have your Atlanta address, Christine. DM it to me.
I would love a copy to share. I so enjoy these little treasures in our community...
DM me your address.
What an upbeat and lovely way to start my day- free books to enlighten us and light our way.
Many thanks for another beautiful post ... Your fragrant, well-knit writing touches the spirit and sows light. Every time.
Pay you later!!! :)
I operate a LFL, but I’m in Canada, so postage may be prohibitive. (Sorry, can’t figure out how to DM!)
Oh gosh, I am so sorry, but yes, postage to Canada is off the chart. I wish I could send you one, Adrienne. So glad you're here.
Yes, I totally understand. It's bonkers going both ways. No worries!
A beautiful ode to LFL- thanks for highlighting.

Oh, I never have looked up the history of the movement. That's cool.

Yes! I think that should be another entire post, about all the other things that can be given away in a box with a door. :)
I don’t have my own little free library, but I live near one and I’d be happy to put a copy in it.
(I have my own copy, but I don’t want to give it away. 😊)
Carrie, DM me your address and I'll send you one. Thank you!
I can’t figure out how to DM you. I’ve looked and looked and I don’t see that option. Can you DM me and I’ll respond, maybe?
Thanks!
Carrie, I can't figure it out either. LOL. Will you email me? I'm on yahoo.

Someone’s hands took the wood
And built something good
With nails and glue
To make a gift for you.
Please stop and look
And then travel into a book.
What wonderful little libraries.
Ah, delightful, Michele.
A poem written well
To honor the makers
And the book-takers.
