Hermina and Janisse, what a delightful flash-cast. Oh how I wish I could forage with the two of you. Hermina sounds like a foraging sister I should meet !

So many many things come to mind! The mention of rabbit tobacco reminded me of how boys where I grew up actually smoked it! I'm not sure I ever did, but I may have. It grew wild all over our farm. I remember its smell.

It's sad that we have to fear for our safety when we're doing nothing that poses danger to anyone else. My son thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail a few years ago. He encountered bears, rattlesnakes, and wild hogs, but the animals he had to be most wary of were other human beings.

The account of the birds at the mailbox, should remind us that we don't have to "go big" to see wild things and to re-wild ourselves. I saw about a dozen deer in the woods yesterday. I saw the ground worn slick at the entrance to a beaver's lair. I saw may apples beginning to bloom along a little stream. So much wild stuff and life to see and appreciate! Conversations like this one remind us of that fact.
